GES Values/Mission

Gretchen Everhart School was established in 1972. It is a fully inclusive pre-K and K-12 school for students with moderate, severe and profound exceptionalities. Gretchen Everhart serves students from the six surrounding counties (the majority from Leon County), and currently has an enrollment of 225 students with a teaching staff of 34 and a full complement of support staff.

What makes Gretchen Everhart special is the fact that the teachers and staff along with parents and the school advisory council embody the school's values and beliefs on a daily basis.

Mission Statement

  • We believe that each individual is unique, differing from all others in types of attributes and degree of endowment. Each individual should be allowed to grow and develop to his/her greatest capacity at maturity - intellectually, physically and socially.
  • We believe that educational programming should be designed to meet the needs of each student as an individual, rather than trying to fit the student into already established programs.
  • We believe that it is the joint responsibility of the home, school, and community to cooperatively provide the environment and experiences to enable each individual to develop his/her maximum potential.

In considering placement of your special needs child at Gretchen Everhart, you should know that the school offers some "basic" services not found elsewhere. These include:

CPR/First Aid certified Staff Crisis Prevention/Intervention
Full-time Social Worker Full-time Registered Nurses
Hearing and Vision Specialist Community Based Instruction (CBI)
Adaptive Physical Education Instructor
