Cartridges for Kids

GRETCHEN EVERHART SCHOOL IS RECYCLING AND WE WOULD LIKE YOUR HELP!

We are recycling used cell phones, empty laser, fax, copier, and inkjet cartridges as well as, laptops, Palm Pilots, iPods, video games, DVD’s and digital cameras for two reasons. First, we are trying to preserve our environment by keeping these harmful items out of landfills, and secondly, to raise funds for Gretchen Everhart PTO which provides funding for: Dances, Prom, Fall Festival, Spring Fling, Fun Day, Teacher and Staff Appreciation and Teacher Supplies (items not funded in the budget).

The recyclable items that are collected are returned to Cartridges for Kids® (CFK). Gretchen Everhart is among more than 12,500 non-profit organizations nationwide that are helping the environment by recycling.

How can you help? You can turn your “trash into our treasure” and feel good about helping the environment all at the same time. Most people have used cell phones to dispose of and almost everyone uses cartridges, either at home or at work. They come from fax machines, copiers and printers. By donating these used items you can assist the GES PTO with earning much needed funds.

Community and business supporters can participate at no cost. These items can also be dropped off at Gretchen Everhart or you may also contact the person listed below to pick up your recyclables.

To learn more about the CFK program, please email Debra Taube or call her at 566-7214.  For more information, visit Cartridges for Kids (opens in new window).

GoodSearch & GoodShop

What if the Gretchen Everhart School PTO earned a penny every time you searched the Internet?  Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause?  Well, now it can!  GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate.  Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!  Imagine, if 100 supporters averaged two searches a day, it would raise $730 a year!

To make your searches even easier, you can download and install the GoodSearch toolbar for Internet Explorer (version 6 or 7) or search box plugins for Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 and Safari.  Go to http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbars.aspx (opens in new window) for download instructions.

Want to raise even more money for the Gretchen Everhart School PTO?  Go to GoodShop.com, a companion site to GoodSearch.com that offers a new online shopping mall.  GoodShop.com will donate up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause!  Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you’ll be supporting the Gretchen Everhart School PTO.  If 100 supporters purchase $500 a year via Good Shop, at an average of 3% donation for each purchase (some on-line companies donate a lot more), it would raised $1,500 a year!

Go to www.goodsearch.com and/or www.goodshop.com and be sure to enter Gretchen Everhart School PTO as the charity you want to support. Be sure to spread the word, encourage family and friends to do the same! Links to these sites can be found on the Everhart PTO Website (home of the Everhart On-line Volunteer Database) at http://everhartpto.org/gespto_fundraiser.html.

  • Kleenex (Individual Packs)

  • Insect Repellent (Deet) (Pump Action or Towelettes)
  • Hand Warmers
  • Writing Paper, Envelopes, Pens Games and Puzzles (Hand Held)
  • DVD’s and CD’s (Movies and Music)

Other Suggested FUN and Yummy stuff!! (A teacher who visited the base has suggested these):

  • Magazines of all types because someone will read even the weirdest ones.
  • Candy - any type now that it’s cooling. They like hard candies, gum and chocolates.
  • Jerky
  • Crackers and chips, especially the crackers with peanut butter or cheese on them
  • Lotions, chapstick, suntan lotion but not eye drops because sand gets stuck in the eyes with the drops
  • Card games
  • Cookies - store bought are okay especially the ones like Oreos and those yummy Pepperidge Farm ones.
  • Fun things like word searches, crosswords, even comics and “funny” gag sort of things.  The most popular things I sent were the little gnomes from the $ Tree.  A year ago when Bergen and I went to Ft. Stewart to see soldiers deploy one asked me if I was the one who sent the gnomes. So silly stuff from the $ Tree is fun.
  • Most bases have good PX stores where guys can get stuff like deodorant and toothpaste but the "smell good lotions" from Bath and Bodyworks would be great for the female soldiers.

Gretchen Everhart Owl Supporter Program

The Owl Supporter Program has been designed so that most every student and family can participate on some level. For as little as $10.00 you can help make the program work and continue to assist the school with meeting the needs of our children. Of course, higher supporter levels will help us reach our goal of $5,000.00 faster, and with your help we can reach our goal.

100% of YOUR money will go towards the purchase of instructional materials, upgrading computer technology, teacher and volunteer appreciation, playground equipment, providing safe social activities and other items that assist in the advancement of education and social awareness for our children.

Download the Flyer - Word or PDF format.

Please join our school in showing support for those who are protecting our country!
