In Memory of Katherine HinsonKatherine Hinson passed away on November 27, 2005. Ms. Kat started working at Gretchen Everhart in April of 1988. She served as an instructional assistant to Cathie Waltermyer, working with the youngest children (3-5 year old) in a self-contained class. Katherine provided gentle kindness to these children until 1991 when the Owl's Nest was begun. At that time she became our "Granny Kat", a grandma to 8 to 12 new born babies. Her baby room was a part of Leon County School's TAPP, Teenage Parent Program. Shortly thereafter, children with special needs were placed in the class. Kat thrived on these special children! She held, rocked, played, read and sang to them. Her gentle hands, kind heart, and love for all was obvious through the relationships that she built with the children and the young moms whose lives she touched. Katherine continued to love and care for children until January 1994 when it was discovered by Doctors that she had a cancerous brain tumor. She maintained her strong faith in God and her belief that it was not yet her time. After surgery, therapy and many prayers she had a miraculous recovery and returned to work late the next fall to Dawn Long's class. She continued to work in Dawn and Cathie's classes until shortly before her death.. Her commitment to her church was strong, where she served as president of the usher board for many years. Her love for God, life and people showed through all she did. She will be greatly missed. Page updated: 04/08/2008 |
