Gretchen Everhart School's 2008 Graduation Ceremony was held Thursday, May 15th 7:00pm in the Everhart Cafeteria.

Players made Grad Ceremony Special

I am a teacher at Gretchen Everhart School here in Tallahassee. We had our graduation Thursday night and sent 10 of our students off into the world with a nice ceremony in our cafetorium.

We had the most wonderful guest speakers, Dekoda Watson and Everette Brown, two Florida State football players. I want to share with you how impressed I am with these two young men. The level of maturity and insight that went into the kind words of encouragement they had for my students was exemplary, especially considering they are only 20 and 21!

They spoke of the importance of being a leader, dreaming big, of family and of keeping your head held high no matter what you are doing. I think they set a great example of pride and responsibility, both in their words and actions.

I know these guys are busy, trying to stay afloat with classes, practices, team meetings, the pressure of good performance, not to mention games, travel and just being in college. I think sometimes we get lost in football and forget that these players are so young and face so much pressure. Most college kids have enough trouble just managing classes alone. Then there are young men like these, coming straight from school and football to us, well prepared, with smiles on their faces.

I really appreciated that they took the time to come and not only thoughtfully speak, but socialize with the kids and their families. I hope everyone reads this and knows what a nice job they did.

A great BIG THANK YOU to Fran, Bill, Brenda, Jen and the Chorus and everyone that made Graduation such a wonderful event for our students.  It was a great celebration for the graduates and all that attended. Special thanks to the following… Fran, Bill, Brenda, Jen, Lisa, Brenda G., Lila, Rachel, Dot, Laura, Ceil, Mary, Dottie, Pam E., Jill, Jan and Leslie... Hopefully we remembered everyone!
